But the real question is, how sustainable can a fashion brand really be?

When you think about it, being in the fashion business by itself is not sustainable. There are already multiple thousand garments that would have been produced by the time you’re done reading this. If this is the case, then producing even a single garment isn’t sustainable, right? But again, it’s not possible to be a 100% sustainable. When brands say that they are sustainable, they probably have more ‘greener’ initiatives in place, but that doesn’t necessarily make it completely sustainable.

At Biskit, we want to be honest with our community. We want to establish to our customers that we are a brand that’s as conscious as it can be. We are very well aware of the fact that it doesn’t necessarily make us sustainable, but we are conscious of what we put out there, how it gets there and the process each garment goes through. We have this in mind during every single part of the production process and we are constantly trying to do better.

As hard as it was, our decision to only make 21 editions for each of our styles was a conscious choice. The whole team agreed on one thing: we need to know and take responsibility for exactly how much we put out there. Apart from this, we work a lot with deadstock fabric - the fabric that is conventionally considered useless, unusable, or unsaleable. We use scrap fabric as much as we can, but rarely we do come across situations where we just cannot use it anymore. In such a case, we donate it to a local upcycling brand that repurposes fabric waste.

Now, even to make new collections, we have made a committed choice to use as much recycled fabric as possible. Honestly, we just want to try our best to let nothing go to waste and be as transparent as possible. It’s been a crazy experience so far and we’re glad to have you be a part of it!
